Principles

When working with children and young people, I place particular emphasis on making sure that the young people feel that they are being taken seriously. It is important that they have a say in which topics are discussed and which are not. Like adults, they also have a say in how the therapy session is structured. In child and adolescent psychotherapy, working with the people close to them is of paramount importance. Therefore, the parents, caregivers, but also the teachers and, if necessary, services for youth welfare can be involved in the treatment by cooperating with them. In all of this, however, it is important that the young people can experience the therapy as a protected environment. There may be certain topics that can be kept secret from the parents.
